Hall bench, first half 20th century

Categories: , ,

Description

A very decorative and beautifully made dark wooden hall bench and canopy with ornately carved panels.

The bench and canopy are richly decorated with floral motifs and foliage, all carved by hand. This type of decoration is also seen on various silver objects from Indonesia.

Presumably, the canopy was part of a four-poster bed, possibly the panels used in the bench are also from the same bed and remade into a bench. Possibly the woodcarvings are of earlier date.

The canopy can be hung above the bench. The pieces can also be used separately (for example canopy above the headrest of the bed).

Dimensions bench: 61 x 202 x 48 cm.
Canopy: 58 x 212 x 22 cm.

In fairly good condition, one of the legs repaired, some traces of wear.

*Cushions and painting are not included.
