Description

Pair of ivory figurines depicting two beggars with large hats and clothing with holes and tears. One beggar carries a travel bag; the other carries a walking stick. The naturalistic representation of common people became popular in the 17th century under the influence of Dutch painting. The figures are carved in the manner of the German sculptor Wilhelm Krüger (1680-1756) and were made in the 18th century, most likely in Germany.

Dimensions (excl. base): 12,5 (h) x 6,5 (b) x 4 (d) cm.

Condition: some repairs.
