Pair of Ivory Putti Representing Hunting and Fishing

This finely carved pair of ivory putti symbolically represents the themes of hunting and fishing. The putto embodying hunting holds a game bird\u2014possibly a pheasant or partridge\u2014and carries a game bag, while the putto representing fishing carries two fish and a fishing rod slung over his shoulder.<\/p>\n
Both the symbolic emphasis and the style of execution suggest a 17th-century origin within the circle of Fran\u00e7ois Duquesnoy, a renowned Flemish sculptor active in Rome for most of his career. The sculptures have undergone restorations but remain in good overall condition.<\/p>\n
