Voorzijde met een gegoten en uiterst fijn gebeiteld tafereel van een Salzburgse familie die hun vaderland verlaat; daarboven de tekst: \u201cGehe in ein Land das Ich dir zeigen will\u201d naar Genesis hoofdstuk 12 vers 6. Hieronder: \u201cGed. der Salz. Emigranten 1732\u201d. Afbeelding van Prins Frederik Willem I op de achterzijde met tekst rond de rand: \u201c Friedr. Wilh. D.G. Rex. Borussia et Br.\u201d. Binnenin 17 ronde, genummerde en fraai met de hand gekleurde kopergravures met taferelen uit het religieuze leven in het Salzburger Land; elk met een opschrift aan de bovenzijde met de bijbehorende bijbelse aanhaling of verwijzing. Achterzijde: Gekleurde voorstellingen met bloemen, vrijhand geschilderd. De individuele bladen waren cirkelvormig gerangschikt met verbindingsstaven, met in het midden een voorstelling van de Goede Herder. (Verbindingsstaven gedeeltelijk gebroken, zie foto), twee gekleurde kaarten ingelijmd in het deksel, met de opschriften: \u201cERZSTIFFT. SALZBURG\u201d en \u201cHERZOGTH. LITHAUEN\u201d, waarvan \u00e9\u00e9n ondertekend: \u201cAbraham Remschard exc. Aug. Vindel\u201d (signatuur Abraham Remschart ook op nr. 17), compleet met in totaal 19 gekleurde kopergravures. Plaat nr. 4 met blauwe vlekken.<\/p>\n<p>Na jaren van represailles tegen de protestantse minderheid, vaardigde de Salzburgse prins-bisschop Leopold Anton von Firmian op 31 oktober 1731 een emigratie-edict uit, dat allen die niet katholiek waren het land uitzette. In het voorjaar van 1732 moesten meer dan 20.000 protestanten uit de hele Abdij van Salzburg hun vaderland verlaten. Ze werden onder andere in Pruisen opgevangen: koning Frederik Willem I verleende de Salzburgse immigranten gunstige voorwaarden voor hun vestiging in Oost-Pruisen. Enerzijds bereikte hij zo de herbevolking van de door de pest ontvolkte gebieden en anderzijds kon hij zich vestigen als leider van de protestantse beweging in Duitsland en Europa. De Pruisische bevolking omarmde de \u201cballingen\u201d met enthousiasme. Naast preken, gedrukte werken, gedichten, liederen en pamfletten werden in deze tijd ook deze medailles met beeldcycli gemaakt om het lot van de verdrevenen publiek te maken.
