Description

Dutch rococo cabinet in burr walnut

This Dutch cabinet has two doors in the upper section and three drawers in the lower section. The cover of the cabinet has a double curve and a beautiful carving of a ‘rocaille’ (floral pattern) in rococo style. The doors are also surrounded by smaller carvings of rocailles. The lower section with the three drawers has a curved front. The cabinet rests on so-called ‘ball- and – claw’ feet. The cabinet is made in oak with a veneer of burr walnut with a varnish in orange-brown colours. In the upper section are shelves and two smaller drawers. The cabinet shows a mixture of Louis XIV and Louis XV-style. (rococo) It is made around A.D. 1765. The orange-brown colour of the veneer is attractive. The brass lids and handles of the drawers are original. There are some minor defects due to aging, especially in the lower rims of the lower section.
