New arrival! Oak sculpture depicting Saint Catherine of Alexandria, early 17th century, Flanders

Elegant oak sculpture, 33 cm high, depicting Saint Catherine of Alexandria, identifiable by the wheel of martyrdom at her side and the defeated king beneath her feet, a reminder of her spiritual triumph. The saint is crowned and holds an open book, a symbol of wisdom and faith. In her right arm she holds a sword. The work retains traces of its original polychromy. Its style combines a classical sobriety typical of the early 17th century with medieval iconographic elements.

We are proud to share that three remarkable pieces from our collection have found their way to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Two works have been acquired by the museum, and one has been generously donated by the family who has long cared for it.

These works come from a distinguished collection of medieval art, largely assembled in the second half of the 20th century. They include a rare Embriachi triptych, an exquisite gravoir, and a plaque dating from around 1300 depicting the Descent from the Cross.

A moment of gratitude and pride as these exceptional works now become part of one of the world’s most renowned museums.
