Description
Bass relief depicting the Ascension of Christ from the school of Cesar Bagard (1620-1707)
The relief shows Christ ascending to heaven surrounded by angels (cherubim and putti) in the clouds. On the floor you see the praying apostles with Mary and some other female disciples in their midst. On the spot where Christ stood we see his footprints. The carving is made of walnut wood and is of high quality. (29 figures in total)
The thick walnut panel shows some shallow cracks and there is some damage to the carving, including the right hand of Christ.
The work can be dated to the second half of the 17th century.
