Polychrome wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. Mary is wearing a crown, also carved in wood. The body is quite elongated. The Child Jesus rests his feet on his mothers hands. The figurine still has some late Gothic features, such as the folds in the fabric of the mantle. It was probably made in the countryside, where they often held on to certain style characteristics for a longer period of time and where not as fast with adopting the latest styles that where in fashion.
Flanders, (possibly Malines), early 17th century.
Dimensions (incl. base) 32.5 x 8.5 x 7 cm.
Overall in good condition for its age, some traces of woodworm, paintloss, feet slightly damaged.
